The Guardiola Railway Station centennial building portraits the history of railways in Catalonia in many ways: the train between Barcelona and Mataró, the construction of the railway network, railway companies, from steam to electricity, the world around the train and, mainly, the binding between the train and Guardiola de Berguedà.

Alt Llobregat Tourist Railway - Cement Train

The little Alt Llobregat Tourist Railway links La Pobla de Lillet with the village of Castellar de n'Hug. On the 20 minute ride you'll see some amazing sights, such as the Artigas Gardens, designed by Antoni Gaudi, and the Asland Cement Museum in the former cement factory.

Asland Cement Factory, at Clot del Moro, in the township of Castellar de n'Hug, was closed about 30 years ago.
The ruins, preserved until nowadays, still reflect the magnificence of one of the most incredible manufacturing spots of the Catalan industrialization, located in a unique environment.

Artigas Gardens, planned by Antoni Gaudí in 1905, show us the naturalistic facet of the architect; here, his work meets the elements in total harmony. Fountains, benches, rails and bridges over Llobregat river, surrounded by leafy vegetation, will keep you accompanied during your walk.

Mining Museum

This museum is dedicated to the coal mining industry in Berguedà. It is located in the mining colony of Sant Corneli, which, following the model of the industrial colonies already established in Catalonia, was founded at the end of the nineteenth century to accommodate the people employed in the coal mines.
Today it is one of the best-conserved mining settlements in Spain. The museum is located in the mining colony of Sant Corneli.

Riutort Petroleum Mine

The feature that sets apart the Riutort mine in Guardiola de Berguedà from others in the Berguedà region is in fact that petroleum was extracted from it (bitumen). Even today, after one hundred years of inactivity, the trickle of petrol can still be seen in the rocks.

Monastery of Sant Llorenç prop Bagà

A community of monks of Sant Benet built their monastery here at the end of the ninth century. One century later, donations made it possible for the abbacy to construct a majestic three-nave church, following the tradition of the classic basilicas, and this was consecrated in the year 983.
It is situated to the North of the village of Guardiola de Berguedà, in the Valley of Brocà, in a wonderful natural setting on a plateau on the eastern face of the Serra de Gisclareny.


Santa Maria de Lillet

Monastery of Santa Maria de Lillet and Rotonda de Sant Miquel

The monastery was built in the 9th Century; nowadays shows Romanesque signs, traced by the Latin cross plant, two out of three original apses and the rustic square-planted cloister. The rest of elements have undergone modifications. At its side lies rotonda de Sant Miquel, one of the best preserved Romanesque circular-planted churches.
It is located in the route from la Pobla de Lillet to Campdevànol. Visitors can ask for the key to the Pobla de Lillet's tourist board.
